Fishtail Braids is One Style You Can Accomplish with Clip in Hair Extensions

Summer is the perfect time for longer, thicker hair. Beachy waves and mermaid hair might be the focus of fashion, but they aren’t the only looks to rock this summer. Fishtail braids are a quick and simple style that can make even lazy hair days chic. They look effortless and keep your hair out of your face on hot, humid days.

Creating An Effortless Fishtail Braid

Fishtail braids are a relatively simple braid alternative. It only utilizes two strands and requires one hair tie to complete.

Step 1: Prepare Your Hair

To create the perfect summer fishtail braid, you’ll want lots of texture and volume. To prepare your hair, add texturizing spray for extra bulk and thickness. You can also add a sea salt spray for some texture, but be sure to keep the sea salt spray away from your extensions as the salt and alcohol can dry out and damage them.

Step 2: Put On Your Clip In Hair Extensions

Fishtail braids sit relatively low on your head so you won’t need to worry about your extensions showing through. Just clip in your extensions like you normally would if you were wearing your hair down.

Step 3: Gather and Separate Your Hair

To make a fishtail braid, you will need to gather your hair at the nape of your neck. Separate it into two equal sections. You will use these strands to create the braid.

Step 4: Start Weaving

Take a small section of hair from the outer edge of one of the pieces. Cross it over to the other side, overlapping the other section in the process. Regrip and tighten the braid. After this, you should still be holding two sections, not three like a normal braid.

Repeat this process with a piece from the other of the two sections. Continue weaving, alternating sides, and overlapping pieces from both sides all the way down to the ends. Secure with a hair elastic.

The pieces you grab should be even and small, about half an inch in width. The thinner the section the more intricate the braid will look, without any added degree of difficulty. Also, be sure to pull these sections from the bottom of the pieces to maintain the braid illusion.

Step 5: Add the Finishing Touches

After you’ve secured your fishtail braid with a hair elastic, gently tug at the braid to loosen it. Lightly pull at the strands to create an effortless look that screams summer.

If you’re looking for a little more excitement, you can add a thin headband or some metallic bobby pins for some added flair.

The Magic Of Clip In Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are a wonderful invention. They give length and volume to women whose natural hair would never be able to achieve it on their own. While there are many types of hair extensions, all with different benefits, clip in hair extensions are the most versatile.

Unlike tape in hair extensions which are semi-permanent and require regular maintenance, clip in hair extensions are there when you want them. You can wear them everyday or only for special occasions, but whenever you’re in a pinch clip in hair extensions are sure to upgrade your look.
