Quick Tips to Fix Tangling Hair Extensions
During the winter months, static may be unavoidable, but that doesn’t mean your tape in hair extensions have to suffer. Before we reveal expert tips on how to fix tangling hair extensions, it’s important to understand why hair extensions tangle in the first place.
4 COMMON REASONS HAIR EXTENSIONS TANGLE
- Weather: Whether it may be the wind, humidity, or heat, weather can negatively affect your hair. Although the wind may be a given, humidity can add too much moisture to your hair, resulting in frizz or loss of volume. Heat will do just the opposite and dry out the moisture of your hair.
- Dryness: Dry hair extensions can occur from using alcohol-based products or not applying a thermal protectant before using hot tools.
3. Lack of Brushing: If you aren’t brushing your hair consistently throughout the day, you’re giving your hair the opportunity to create tangles.
- Bedtime knots: Tossing and turning throughout the night can wreak havoc on your hair, especially if you use a cotton pillow.
Hair extensions will tangle similar to your natural hair, however, if your extensions are tangled and matted to the point where a hair brush can’t brush through the tangles, then you may have an issue. The tips we are going to provide will only work on preventing and treating natural tangling. If you believe your hair is tangling more than normal, consult your stylist to determine the state of your extensions.
WAYS TO PREVENT HAIR EXTENSIONS FROM TANGLING
Use the Wet Dry Detangling Brush Consistently
Brushing your extensions is one of the most important steps in the hair care routine. Brushing your hair at least three times a day will prevent tangles from forming in your hair. Always brush your hair from the bottom up to avoid compromising the bond. Simply brushing your hair can make your hair look soft, shiny, and refreshed. The Wet Dry Detangling Brush is also small enough to carry in your purse, so we recommend purchasing a few to make sure you always have one on hand.
Follow Proper Hair Care Routine
As we mentioned before, using alcohol-based products can dry out your hair. We recommend using our Daily Shampoo, which is specially formulated for our extensions. However, you can also use shampoo that doesn’t contain any silicone or oils. If you are experiencing dryness, we recommend using a hair mask at least once a week on just the ends of your hair. You can also use our daily Leave-in Conditioner in between hair masks. Using the proper products will not only protect your color but also extend the life of your easiLengths tape in extensions.
Prep for Hot Tools
Wearing hair extensions requires the use of hot tools to style and blend. If you can avoid using hot tools, we recommend doing so. However, if you plan on using hot tools, make sure to use a thermal protectant to protect your hair from any thermal damage. Our Heat Treat + Shine is the perfect balance of adding protection, but also shine. Plus, it smells amazing! Prolonged use of hot tools without protection will result in dry, frizzy, and unmanageable extensions.
Bedtime Routine
Believe it or not, the type of pillow you sleep on can cause your hair extensions to tangle. Instead of sleeping on a cotton pillowcase, we recommend using silk, which will reduce the amount of friction that is caused during your sleep. Also, it’s important to style your hair at night to reduce tangles. Before bedtime, braid and secure your hair with a scrunchie to protect your hair from knotting up. You can also wrap your hair in a silk scarf if you prefer not to style your hair before bed.
